Answer
Phuket Airport introduced automated immigration gates for eligible international arrivals in June 2026. They are intended for travellers with compatible electronic passports, but eligibility and lane availability can vary, and some passengers will still be directed to a staffed immigration counter.
Have the passport ready, remove covers if instructed and follow the airport signs rather than joining a queue simply because it looks shorter. Families, travellers with documentation issues and passengers who need manual checks should allow extra time. The e-gates can improve processing, but they do not remove the need to complete Thailand's required arrival information or satisfy normal immigration conditions.
